But that receipt wont come until 2-3 weeks later. If someone submits pp+140
at the same time, what's the best way to get the case number? On the back of
the check?

then u can't check ur case online or through 1-800 number

你application寄出去后，移民局就会寄给你 I-797 (notice of action),这notice上
面有你的receipt/case 号码，这样你才可以上网查，要不就查不了。 不过还是可以打
电话，记得800电话有个option是if you don't have a receipt no, press XXX。不过
建议耐心等几个星期，收到notice了，就会有receipt no了~

The receipt no. is on the top left of the I-797 Notice of Action USCIS sent to you (after they received your application).

支票deposite后，在线银行，支票背后有receipt号，输入https://egov.uscis.gov/

一般两三天就会收到receipt吧？如果是e-file更是立刻就有。
