Normally, when you leave custom in China, you will be asked to show an
effective visa or green card of the country that you are leaving for. If you
don't have an effective visa, you may not be allowed to leave China. The
question is, if I am showing AP to the people working in custom, do they
understand what AP is, and will they allow me to leave China?

Thanks for all the reply. I am the first time to use AP. So not sure about
what I need to pay attention.
One more question. The AP that USCIS mailed to me are two same sheets sort
of like a I797 approval notice with my picture on it. Should I carried both
when enter into US custom? Or two sheets are for two entries? You turn in
one per entry?

Custom officer at U.S. border will take one copy of your AP. You keep the
other one for future trips.
For future trips, make a copy of your original. At the entry of U.S., same
thing, a copy will be taken by officer, you keep the other one for future
trips.
You can continously use like this before AP expiration date.
