I came to know about Dr. XXX’s research work during my visit this summer to
XXX University, where he is currently a research associate in the Department
of
Chemistry. Other than our meeting there and conversations about our mutual
research
interests in the XXX field, I have no professional association or
collaboration with
Dr. XXX.

Unless there is solid evidence that could bring about suspicion, you don't
want to use such language as "I've never buried 300 silver here."
IMO, 'solid evidence' includes: you two were once in the same department of
the university, or you two were in the same lab, working for the same PI but
were years apart (he's gone before you got here.)
