请问大家咋要推荐信啊

请问大家咋要推荐信啊# Immigration - 落地生根

开始弄推荐信，可是发信找一些教授要都没人回信呀。。到现在只有我phd老板同意
给我一封。。其他的全都石沉大海，我太失败了，哎。。。请问大家都怎么要推荐
信的？有什么窍门吗？

窍门就是找熟人 --
你认识的很熟的可以假装Independent的，
你不熟但是有过交流你知道很Nice的，
你不熟没交流但是你老板很熟的，
你不熟你老板也不熟但是你老板知道他/她很Nice的。
我的Independent 推荐信来自上述前三种情况。
上述几种怎么也能给你4封Independent推荐信了。
除了上述几种，其他的就只能碰运气了。
大家都很忙，陌生人不理你很正常。而且他/她引用过你的文章不是必须写推荐信的理
由。

广撒网，昨晚上下了个大网。
今早上收到三个回复说愿意的，都是独立的。lz加油，别灰心，这世界热心人还是很多
的。
借机问个问题：是不是推荐人里要包括一个现在的老板比较好？
现在独立的推荐人够了，想把老板留着当后备，这样到时万一被rfe了要起
信来会方便点

Are you for EB1A or EB1B? For EB1A, your boss's letter may be unnecessary.
For EB1B, it's better to have one.
In RFE, people often ask for independent letters, so your boss's letter may
or may not be useful then, depending on what the RFE is.

The answers above have shown you the way, and you can get more letters.
Regarding this thought "其他的全都石沉大海，我太失败了，哎。。。" It's
quite depressing, isn't it? Well, is it true that not getting any response
out of X number of requests is your failure?
It's just a fact that you didn't get much response out of the first round of
requests. From there, you'd consider:
1. Should I write the email in some other way?
2. What kind of letters should be helpful to me?
3. How many more people should I try to ask?
Your goal is simply to get Y number of letters, that should cover enough of
your achievements. To get there, it does not matter it's X number of
requests you send or XX number of requests you send.
Until you reach your goal, there's no failure. The only failure would be if
you gave up.

好的多谢大家！！我找找原因接着写信。其实比较打击的是老板的老婆都不回我信，
呵呵。。。还是我毕业的committee member.

我是申请EB1A+NIW。
NND花钱请了律师跟没有一样，让给个建议挑选推荐人，什么屁也不放，说看我自己，
ft。 file时交5封推荐信，不知道给改了5封信后其他的推荐信还给不给我改。

I am so sorry to hear such stories where the lawyer does not seem helpful.
Who is him/her? What's the contract terms on how many letters can be revised?
The best references should be the one who have used your work, or at least
cited your work. Totally irrelevant people are not so helpful, but if there'
s nothing else, such letters are better than none.
For EB1A, your boss' letter is not a must, but maybe helpful. I am not so
familiar with NIW, which is about your irreplaceable contribution, and your
boss could say something like that, not only for your organization, but also
for the industry or research field, etc.

说的很靠谱
我有2个信就是没引过我文章的但是是本领域的人
不过他们帮我写了信之后，突突引了好几次我文章

:-) I see that you are very good at PR!
Did they cite your papers after your 140 submission or before? If before,
you should really ask them to change the letters. :-) Well, even without it,
you got your 140 approved, so no biggie for you. :-)

没用，我引用本来已经很多了，多几十个也没啥区别

感觉问律师(有名保守的那个，不过现在是他手下一个人负责我的case)还真不如在这里
信息来的快和广。
我找了两个引用我的人写，但都是在中国。一个有13篇paper引了我文章，一个有4篇
。但是律师说最好一个国家只要一个，所以刚找到一个西班牙的，没引过我文章但是
同领域，是一个杂志的编辑，正好我有 5篇文章都发在这个杂志，而且是我引用率的主
力军。
真不知道用哪个推荐人好啊

Re this.
If you have asked them and they have agreed, do get all those letters, not
only because you can have the option to use them, but also because I don't
want to waste their kindness. In the worst case of RFE (knocking the wood, I
wish you not), some unused letters can be easily resigned with a new date
and then used for RFE.(for RFE, do get a new signature with a new date,
because there was a reported cased on this board that it was rejected due to
an earlier date on the RFE reference before the original 140 submission
date)
Then later in compiling your package, you can choose not to use all of them.
Of course, the appreciation, once your case is approved, should still be
sent to all of the references.

You do need to make them look different, in the wording, style, and the
coverage of the achievements, etc.
You can hold onto them when they are all ready, and take an overview look to
adjust them, before you send them out for signatures.
Well, of course, any time you decide that you don't want to use a letter,
you can just send it out without much change, since you won't use it any way.
For the letters you mentioned earlier though, they all seem to have some
unique potentials for your usage, so they should be polished together to
avoid much similarity.

Right, Good points.
I will try the best to...
Hope I can finish the supporting letter process very soon.
Have accumulated 3 manuscripts to review,
WTF, The process to get a green card is a kind of torment. but, anyway...
the good thing is we all can get some comfort from the people here!
