Dr. XXXXX’s Personal Statement
Dear Immigration Officer,
It is my great pleasure and strongest intention to continue my research work
in the United States. I am currently a postdoctoral research associate at
the XXXXX Center (XXXXX Center), XXXXX University. I have been working here
since 2009, and my research mainly focuses on environmental pollution and
health. I expect to continue working in this area with my full capacity.
My ultimate goal is to provide analytical methods in different environmental
media including human sample for any containment of interest which can
cause environmental pollution and affect human health, with an aim at
reducing harmful exposures and promoting human health.
Since I graduated from my PhD program in 2007, my research has focused on
environmental contaminants and their accumulation in humans and the
environment. I have assessed the level of harmful chemicals such as PBDEs,
PCBs and OCPs in humans, providing useful information about their retention
in the human body and analytical methods of the hazards of these chemicals.
I have published approximately 15 papers in peer-reviewed journals.
I am also the recipient of the XXXXX Foundation (XXXXX) Visiting Fellowship
(2007-2008 and 2009-2010) for postdoctoral training at XXXXX University and
XXXXX University because of my significant contributions to environmental
pollution and health.
My Current Research
Currently, I am working on the evaluation of the reliability of U.S. XXXXX
Agency (XXXXX) methods for the analysis of emerging contaminants including
steroids, hormones and pharmaceuticals in different environmental media such
as water, soil, sediment and biosolids. I am also developing analytical
methods for selected emerging contaminants of interest such as Bisphenol A (
a toxic substance used in plastics), PFCs, and 1,4-dioxane. I am identifying
and analyzing byproducts of pharmaceuticals for large companies such as
XXXXX, as well as byproducts from producing ion exchange resin, which can be
used to clean water or in water treatment, for companies such as XXXXX.
These studies are crucial for decreasing contaminants in the environment and
to help maintain human health.
My Future Research Plans and Long Term Goals
My long term goal is to conduct high quality research to develop new and
efficient methods to help the U.S. accurately assess environmental
contaminants in soil, water, food, human blood, human milk and human tissue,
which is important for protecting the health of individuals within this
country. Also, I will continue to explore the fate of byproduct of
containment, such as the byproducts of pharmaceuticals after degradation
treatment by different technologies such as ozonation and UV treatment. It
is extremely important to know if such byproducts are harmful for
environment and human and animal
health after they are treated. With continued funding and modern
technological support, I firmly believe my research will continue
contributing to the field of environment In this statement, I have sought to
set forth my intentions and plans as an extraordinary ability researcher. I
really enjoy working in the above fields and I wish to continue making
significant advances in the area of environmental pollution and health. I
believe I will make further significant and beneficial contributions in this
area in my work that will be of substantial benefit to the United States.
