Funds with names started with "Spartan" are mostly index funds
FSTMX, FSIIX, etc.

But I would suggest you go with Vanguard if you are primarily interested in
index funds. A lot more choices there.

I'd go with Vanguard index funds. Although the Spartan (Fidelity) index
funds have lower expense ratio than corresponding Vanguard index funds (
Fidelity might be losing money to run these funds to attract customers),
their funds are not as tax efficient as the Vanguard funds. You can google
and people have compared them. For your son who is going to be in the market
for many many years, tax efficiency is a concern.
Within the Vanguard family, Total Stock Market Index Fund (VTSMX) maps the
