they invested a lot on java,
it's not easy to just go away and reinvent new wheels

Oracle invested a lot on Java too, don't forget they own BEA.
But I don't like Oracle owing Java. It would be IBM's interests
to make Java more open, not neccesarily Oracle.

Kill MySQL, you have to go back and pay Oracle. How many alternatives
you have? I doubt Sun is earning money on MySQL at all. Or they may
start charging MySQL per CPU.

after oracle bought bea, weblogic went up to $25k from $17k

sun doesn't earn $ from mysql, doesn't mean oracle can't.
sun's management and sales suck.

invested in java technology
mysql is a lost to open source lovers
that's why i hope redhat wont be merged by ORACLE
in that case, we will lost jboss which is my favor
anyway, although reinvent a wheel is heavily costly
i still believe IBM has that kind of 魄力
its time to give birth to another modern popular language

That being true, I double at this point
Oracle can actually close up Java - most of the
jdk is gpl'ed.
And that's also saying that I don't actually
see how Oracle can succeed where Sun has failed,
i.e., make money from Java.

oracle does not need to make money off Java directly; it simply wants to
make sure Java does not die or become fragmented due to Sun fading away.
This is critical as 2/3 of Oracle's products are entirely relying on Java (
the Applications and Middleware business lines), the other 1/3 being the
database.
but really I think getting Java is just a by product; the bigger picture is
oracle can now revitalize Solaris and the high-end server hardware market so
it can sell bundled solution to large ente

Not quite, check Harmony for instance, they are unable to get TCK license
from Sun. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apache_Harmony
Since they now control Java implementation. Maybe they can optimize Java
to run with Solaris and Oracle and get an technical edge, one stop shop
Java.net is not a bad idea. Or if they play
evil, they may find some way to screw IBM. like
if(connnecting to DB2) {
System.exit(1)
}
One way or ther other, IBM is in an awkward position and Oracle is the
winner.

That's because Harmony wants to be APL. A GPL implementation
would not have the problem.
But they don't. And they can't.
There are other languages providing the same quality and
suitable for enterprise system development as Java is.
It would not be in Oracle's best interest to buy Java only to smother
it to death.

GC in the "community version". 8-)
