They use the servlet as the server side and
javascript as the client side.
I didn't look in detail about their implementation,
but I think you can get some idea from it.
And also, I think JMS(java messagingg system)
may be another choice of your framework.
As to server push, I don't think now, you can
push contents to client side while client is totally
inactive. Normal implementation is blocking
the process to send request until there is a
message
