Just an expression. It meant that they stop being rivals when
they standardize ... tech.

这句的大意就是说暂时不竞争了，take off rival hat，
作为别人对手的帽子摘掉了，大家一起合作。

it's pretty much bullshit. now I believe JCP did more harm than good
to java community. customers are locked in bad and slow standards,
cheated to use heavy and expensive solutions, while vendor lock-in is
still very hard to get rid of. after all, JCP is of big vendors.
