1. Visual Designer and R&D Engineer
In this position, we expect you are 'a visual designer and HCI R&D engineer.
' Our work will push the limits of the latest technology to create new user
experiences and empower users to access data in revolutionary ways. You will
explore interface workflows which leverage the latest in data visualization
. You will lead the charge of creating elegant and functional User
Interfaces for interactive data applications for the company platform on
mobile/smart devices. We are looking for individuals whose skills are fit
for the following responsibilities and qualifications.
* Responsibilities (include but not limited to):
- Create the next generation of mobile devices and services that will help
lead Samsung into the future. This includes both the evolution of
convergence services as well as new types of mobile/smart devices.
-Work with other Samsung group to refine ideas and create business models
for new concepts of mobile devices/services to help bring them to fruition.
- Contribute to the organization's strong drive to be on the cutting edge of
technology through the generation of patentable ideas.
- Come up with innovative new user interface designs and experiences to
enable easy user interaction with our futuristic devices via Web 2.0
technologies and mobile media.
- Rapidly prototype hardware and software solutions using internally and
externally created solutions to demonstrate ideas around the company: First,
perform storytelling on user experiences of futuristic services/devices and
demo scenarios. Second, build mock-ups for the user interface portions of
new features and other visual elements in the project. Third, develop user
interface features for web and mobile platforms. Finally, show demos with
working prototypes.
- Research new HCI (Human Computer Interaction) paradigms put into use by
our futuristic devices and services and analyze applicability in our space.
- Create technical solutions to complex software issues while understanding
software-development processes.
- Works collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team to build useful, well
-designed interactive experiences.
* Qualifications:
- Education: MS in Human Computer Interaction, Computer Sciences/Arts,
Graphic Design, or related field. PhD preferred.
- Past experience in creating novel concepts particularly in the mobile area.
- Past (at least 2 years) experience with prototyping new ideas primarily in
software but also mockup of hardware to support those ideas.
- Past experience as a 'futurist' in creating concepts 'ahead of their time'
is a plus.
- Solid understanding in social sciences (social network, life log, eHealth,
etc.) and user experience is a key to this position. Also the ability to
combine those into novel solutions
- Passion for problem solving. Out of the box thinker who can leverage a
wide range of skills to present concise and practical solutions to complex
problems.
- Solid knowledge of prototyping tools (Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash etc…)
as well as workflow tools.
- Solid understanding of web technologies (HTTP, Apache) and familiarity
with Unix/Linux. Experience in developing ‘real-time web’ is preferred.
- Expertise in Javascript, Flash/ActionScript/Flex, HTML, CSS, Ajax/DHTML,
PHP – database knowledge of MySQL/SQL, etc. desirable. Experience on
Android platform plus.
- Experience in Java, Object-C or high-level programming languages for
developing mobile applications is preferred.
- Expertise and demonstrated delivery of high quality artifacts (
infographics, data visualizations, web sites, etc).
- Basic understanding of latest technologies used for data visualization and
some familiarity with programming languages.
- At least 4 years of demonstrable experience in user interface design and
development.
- Strong analytical and communication skills. Must be able to learn new
technologies and the domain space very quickly and present ideas in a team
setting.
- Must have the eagerness to constantly strive to innovate and the ability
to initiate discussions regarding new ideas.
- Team-oriented individual, positive attitude, energetic, result & delivery
oriented, keen interest on quality and intense attention to detail.
