This is a great opportunity for a Principal Mechanical Engineer with
Oxidation Protection experience to join Honeywell's Aerospace team.

This job is with Honeywell Aerospace, Wheels and Brakes Friction Materials
Engineering group. Engineering candidates must have a working knowledge of
carbon/carbon ceramic friction materials including, the chemistry of high
temperature Anti-Oxidant (AO) coatings used for c-c and Ceramic composites
as well as standard evaluation methods including, Oxidation testing,
friction performance testing and materials characterization techniques
including optical and SEM microscopy, EPAX, ICP, etc.
Candidate must have working knowledge of carbon/carbon ceramic friction
materials including, the chemistry of high temperature Anti-Oxidant (AO)
coatings used for c-c and ceramic compositions as well as standard
evaluation methods including, oxidation testing, friction performance
testing, and materials characterization techniques including optical and SEM
microscopy, EDAX, ICP, etc.
Primary responsibilities include:
• The development and evaluation of new carbons and their anti-
oxidant protection coatings used in friction brake parts.
Expertise in the following process areas is desired:
Composite Performing, Carbonization, Densification, Heat treatment, AO
formulations, AO processing and evaluation of high temperature antioxidant
systems.
Responsibilities include:
Materials and process specifications development and maintenance, conducting
maintenance audits to ensure specifications and process compliance,
evaluation of New AO systems through characterization (XRD, SEM, EDAX, XRF,
etc.) and performance tests (friction and oxidation) as well as support of
production AO processes and determination of Root Cause and Corrective
Action associated with AO systems and identification of process improvement
opportunities and cost reductions.
Technical Skills include a broad understanding of AO systems including the
process used, the characterization, processing and applications of current
and new AO systems, understanding of design requirements for aerospace brake
components, effective communication and participation on teams with
considerable focus in manufacturing AO systems.
The main customers of this position are the Honeywell engineering and
manufacturing units, Integrated Supply chain as well as the supply base.
Qualifications:
• BS Materials Science or Engineering, chemistry/chemical
engineering or other suitable engineering degree
• 5 years progressive experience in an R&D environment
• Must be US citizen or resident Alien (Green card) to support
government programs and projects.
Additional Qualifications:
• Demonstrated success working in a functional and matrix
organization: Able to simultaneously deal with multiple constituencies and
demands is preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills (internal and
external presentations) desired.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office tools desired.
• Green Belt / Design For Six Sigma Certification desired.
• Strong teamwork skills, able to work in a variety of team roles
within cross-functional teams is desired.
• Dedication to customer satisfaction and demonstrated capability
to establish and maintain strong business relationships with suppliers,
customers and co-workers is desired.
• Ability to facilitate interpersonal relationships, resolves
conflicts tactfully, confidently, quickly, & positively influence others
preferred.
