我打算 summer 2012 PhD答辩，那么需要注册 Spring 2012吗？
OPT 10/2012 到期，要是申请今年4月分的 H1B,那么这个 H1B批准了的话，
我的 OPT身份就没了吧，这种情况下还能注册，还能答辩吗？
我也在和学校联系，也希望板上有经验的朋友给我看看，谢谢了。

Once you have H1B, you are no longer F1, but you can still pursue your
degree. You no longer need to register to maintsin your status. So it all
depends on whether your school requires you to register or not as a policy.
Either way you'll be fine.

so it's pre-completion OPT? If so, you need to register all spring/fall
semesters (including Spring 2012) as full-time student before you graduate (or till H1B starts on 10-1-2012).
