Cisco Software Engineer III, Grade 8 (for fresh phd)
$110k base, at San Jose
12% target bonus
not much sign-on bonus + $0 relocation
Background: fresh cs Ph.D. from a US University ranked lower than 100th +
math M.S. from China. No previous work or intern experience. No B.A. in CS.
With no intention to show off, the only thing I want to share with those
having a similar background is:
Prepare early for your career when you are at school. Job hunting is a long
process, especially for those without a B.A. in CS. If possible, start to
get real interview (for example, internship interview) experience 2 years
before getting your phd. You may fail so many times; but the benefit is, you
know what to prepare for job hunting and you should constantly review your
cs books in the meantime. Minimally, please leave at least one and a half
years to job hunting. Because you will need at least one year to review or
even start to learn the necessary cs knowledge including Operating Systems,
Distributed Systems, Computer Networking, Object-oriented Programming,
Database and Computer Architecture.
