Staff Data Scientist

The organization: Analytics
The Analytics team is central to Chegg – supporting every business line and
functional organization at the company. It is a team composed of engineers
, mathematicians, statisticians, scientists, and business analysts. The
team influences strategy and tactics of Chegg’s product roadmap and
engineering; organizes and monitors marketing and promotion efforts; engages
with financial planners; and is responsible for the planning and execution
of several components of the supply chain.
The role: Staff Data Scientist
The Staff Data Scientist role is a leader of the Analytics team who will
partner with the product and business leaders to shape the strategy and
direction of Chegg’s portfolio of digital products and services. You will
be expected to take on multiple projects across Chegg, act as a technical
leader and a team member, and use analysis, modeling, and data science to
transform the company. From predictive analytics measuring business
performance, modeling product engagement for our digital services,
interpreting customer satisfaction by mining social network feeds, to
innovating our existing site experience – you’ll get exposure to all areas
of the business.
Key to the role is the desire and ability to balance multiple analytics
efforts, leverage other analytics team members and their skills, and to
deliver insights and innovative methods of solving problems.
This position is based in Santa Clara, CA, and the role will be responsible
for any and all of the following:
Provide decision-support to product leaders, senior management, and
executives across multiple products and product roadmap initiatives.
Perform advanced analytics and data mining of Chegg’s structured and
unstructured data platforms.
Develop and define key product metrics that drive product and business
success; generate decision-support tools and templates for reporting.
Demonstrate the value of different product alternatives and potential
investments through analyses.
Develop presentations to communicate broadly across the product groups and
business units.
Requirements:
7-12 years of demonstrated success in data or business analytics, product
management analytics, and proven project management experience.
Passionate about producing high-quality analytics deliverables and
communicating results to a broad audience.
Extensive analytical toolset including an advanced understanding of
statistics (time series analysis, cluster analysis, multivariate analysis),
discrete simulation, linear and nonlinear optimization.
Excellent SQL skills; comfortable using various data access tools.
Strong statistical background and experience with R or SAS.
Experience working with unstructured data platforms such as Hadoop, Aster,
and Elastic MapReduce a plus.
Experience developing time series forecasting models, machine learning
algorithms, statistical regression models, or linear and nonlinear programs.
Familiarity with BI platforms such as Tableau and Qlikview, scripting
language (Python, Perl) experience a plus.
Familiarity with the identification and resolution of working with disparate
sources of data and data quality issues.
Self-motivated; independent, organized and proactive; highly responsive,
flexible, and adaptable when working across multiple product teams.
