我博后刚满一年，目前申请faculty职位。博士期间的老教授（非导师）给我的
research statement提了一些建议。我觉得他说的在理，中肯，直白。下周我会去找这
位教授面谈，希望他能帮我写封强有力的推荐信。为了知己知彼，我把部分邮件发在这
里，想请教各位有经验的老师，看看我在他的心中是什么样的打分。

I read your research statement last night. Very impressive.
However it reads a bit like a paper. I did not come a away knowing how you
personally have contributed to the subject.
If I had to ask you what was your contribution other than using other people
's programs and the data sets that are out there, what would be your reply?
Have you developed a new technique. Did you write a special computer
program for analyses. Otherwise it looks as if you are a great research
assistant, fine for a PhD, but a Professor has got to point out to how he
tested his own ideas that were different from the various advisors.
The committee will ask what is novel about XXX's approach.
Also a 5-year plan might be a good idea. Write down what you would propose
to NSF and what you hope to discover in 5 years.
