8年前某晚，一时无聊注册了个女ID，从此再没去过，今天收到这封邮件

i was able to use the plug-in microphone yesterday for recording, but there'
s no sound today. not sure what i've done to mess it up. already checked
with another mic, same problem. i checked all kinds of things but still can'
t see anything wrong. the front-panel mic is listed as enabled with a green
check mark, but sound recording test can't hear anything. someone
knowledgable please walk me through. thanks!

把音量调大，看看声音是不是从机箱自带迈克出来了？

i searched the system spec, seems there's no builtin mic. also, already set
volume to max, both for mic and for speaker.

右键点击声音那个图标（右下角）-》recording device,看看你的mic是不是working的?
Indicator动吗？

那应该就是这个迈克了，你说话那个indicator也没有变化？双击看看setting

how do i rule out the possibility of a broken jack?
the one on my old laptop got broken enventually and i had to jiggle the
microphone for it to work. hope this jack is not dead...

mute or disabled...

extended这个是什么东东？没查。不过，昨天试了reboot也不行，可今天开机再用就好
了：）

时好时坏，这两天是坏的。重装过driver，也做过system restore，还咋办？

could be overheated?
could be the driver corrupted due to faulty HDD location.
i used to have problem with my earphone/mic jack in XP.
in the end, i had to rename the driver files then re-installed.
and strangely, that fix the problem.
