Anyone who is familiar with Rudyard Kipling’s story Rikki Tikki Tavi will
know to what extent mongooses can be domesticated and turn out to be a
blessing for human beings. The story revolves round a pet mongoose that
saves an entire family from two cobras.
Belonging to the family of Herpestidae, mongooses are small carnivores
usually hailing from Eurasia and mainland Africa. However the word mongoose
has been derived from the Marathi term mangus (pronounced ‘mongoose’).
There are over thirty-three species of mongoose identified, each having a
specific scientific name.
Mongoose anatomy
Mongooses generally range from 1-4 feet in length and weighs somewhere
between 300 grams to 4 kilograms. Some species prefer leading a solitary
life while others move around in groups. Mongooses have long faces and
bodies with small rounded ears. Short legs with long tapering tails complete
their anatomical structure. They are covered with thick fur which is
usually brown or grey in color.
Mongoose habitat and diet
Mongooses live in varied habitats, ranging from wetlands to rocky terrains,
from grasslands to forests. They live in burrows and rock crevices abandoned
by other animals. But occasionally they dig their own homes as well. While
they are cute and cuddly; they are intelligent, cunning, bold and agile
predators. They are mostly active during the day. Mongoose feed on crabs,
earthworms, insects, lizards, rodents and chicken. They are also known to
consume eggs. One unique attribute of the mongooses are its ability fight
with venomous snakes including the deadly cobra. The Indian mongoose is
particularly famous for such acts. Though mongooses are successful in
killing snakes, most of the time they do not consume snake meat.
Compatibility with humans
Despite their reputation as predators, mongooses are not ferocious in nature
. On the contrary they can make lovable pets for those who want them to.
They can be largely compatible with humans. However all the species of
mongoose cannot be fully domesticated. So it is advisable to choose
carefully from the different available species. This small animal is rather
intelligent and if trained properly, it is known to pick up tricks easily
such as playing with balls and other props.
Nonetheless one should keep in mind certain things before having a mongoose
as a pet. Since it considered being a wild animal, it becomes difficult to
find a veterinary that would treat a mongoose. Once in a year vaccination is
required to be given to a mongoose and rabies shot is must. Also remember,
that since it is a wild animal, it can snap at anyone at any moment. So it
is highly recommended that you take appropriate measures and precautions
before domesticating a mongoose.
Despite its wild instincts, mongoose can turn out to be lovable pet if

一般养猫防蛇，狗不大爱管犄角旮旯杂物堆下面的事。
但是有规定商业菜地及周边一定范围内不得有恒温动物，有些病毒会从动物经蔬菜进入
人体。

我不是这方面的专家，不过我觉得如果成本不大，任何方法都可以试一试嘛

王蛇还吃鼠类和其他爬行类动物。 比较好养， 因为一般你只需要喂它买来的冰冻小鼠
，它也不挑食， 除非它自己发现领地里有别的蛇可以开荤。
至于有了王蛇， 周边其他的蛇类都会绝迹，那是各种资料上都提到这点。 看了网上大
量有关王蛇如何去寻找其他蛇类并吃掉的录像和照片后，我认为这点属实。 因为附近
的蛇类要是不跑的话，迟早就会被王蛇找到并吃掉。
肃清领地内的其他蛇类，亚洲的眼睛王蛇也有这种能力。但眼睛王蛇对人也是致命的毒

对老鹰夏天育雏每天都要吃好几条蛇比其他动物胃口大多了。如果地形太平坦周围缺乏
大树可能老鹰不容易来，你可以树一些raptor perch，给红尾鹰之类的立足和筑巢

蛇没有领地的，王蛇是oppertunitstic feeder，饿了遇到什么吃什么，不会专门去找
蛇来吃，饱的时候其他蛇在旁边也不管，有时候会在一个洞里发现王蛇和响尾蛇，互不
干涉。事实上自然界不可能出现把自己领地内食物都吃完还不走的动物啊，大家都是哪
里食物多才住哪里。
当然成本不高可以一试，王蛇很好养，喂冻的老鼠就可以，最大的问题是宠物店买的王

蛇吃的东西也许不多，这两天看蛇的资料，响尾蛇一夏天吃的食物，才是体重的百分之
几十，不到自身体重，有点惊讶。王蛇如果也是这样，那指望不上了。

我们那里老鹰（vulture）成群, 所以那些大蛇基本都是夜间出没．
白天就敢出来的, 不是被人干掉, 就是被鹰干掉.
但是一旦进入大棚， 除了人, 蛇就没有其他天敌了.
不懂事的小蛇有白天出来乱蹿的, 鹰好象也顾不过来， 周边野猪松鼠野兔什么的,
太多了.

你确定是vulture不是caracara？前者是不吃蛇的。vulture可以长时间滞空，不需要
Perch，但是hawk之类的就不行了。
大棚里面的蛇，那就真没办法，只有靠捉靠打了
