古代的时候你们是门当户对的，可以结婚的。现在很多国家姨表亲也是可以结婚的，姑
表亲则不行。其实中国说表亲不能结婚多少也有点像计划生育政策一样太一道切。表亲

般夫妇 (正常, 年青, 而无血源关系) 生产严重畸形儿的机会率大约是 3-4%, 而表兄妹夫妇出现同样情况的机会率只是略高, 约 5%, 只是相约於高龄产妇 (41 岁) 的生产缺憾下一代的机会.我国大陆是禁止表兄一般夫妇 (正常, 年青, 而无血源关系) 生产严重畸形儿的机会率妹结婚的，但在香港与台湾都不禁止。
另，香港法例第181章附表中, 并无规定表兄妹不可以结婚. 而香港法例是以英国法例为基础, 英文中的表亲与堂亲都是 cousins, 即是说不论是表兄妹或堂兄妹通婚都不是违法.
