第一次到法庭定了下次Trial(第一次)的时间, 能推迟吗?
由于与临时决定要参加的会冲突, 不能出庭了, 本来地图, 气象记录, 路况等材料都准备
好了. 打电话给法庭问能否推迟, 秘书说不能了, 因为传票已经发给了警察, 不能改. 请
问各位动法律的大侠, 是这样吗?
挺冤枉的, I-70高速上开累了下203出口在Foristell停在一加油站旁的杂货店旁休息了二
十分钟, 回高速时被警察拦在高速上要搜, 怀疑我有大麻! 结果大麻自然是搜不到的, 警
察愤怒地给了我两个ticket! 一说我在加油站旁stop sigen右拐没给灯; 二说我右拐上高
速匝道(onto east entrance)的时候failed to keep single lane (cross over center
lane)! 天哪, onto east entrance的地方可是右拐的corner啊! 哪来的center lane啊!
实在是不愿就此罢休, 太冤了! 不知有什么好办法?

I think whether or not you can postpone the trial depends on the local court
rule. If they said yes, then you can; if they said NO, then you cannot.
I just wonder why you chose to disrespect a court. Is there any meeting which
is more important than facing a judge for making yourself clean?
Try to respect the law and the judge. Even if you are allowed to postpone the
trial, you will lose some credit anyway in judge's mind.

我说, 哪有比学术会议更重要的呢?
"Try to respect the law and the judge."? 有什么办法! 老板大还是法官大人大呢?
要说都大, 都搞得我头大! 法官的任务不能推, 老板的任务能推迟吗? 又不是我想推, 没
办法呀.
再说了,不去也不是disrespect a court, 大不了plead guity交钱, 那也是respect the
law啊. 老哥您也真逗, 我只是心有不甘那.

1) If you have made your own decision, it is better not asking for suggestion.
2) No one else deserves more resepct than law and judge in this country, even
the President (Bush was "actually" selected by judges in 2000).
3) I do not want to make fun with you, but only to warn you not making more
trouble.

I do legal battles in state and federal courts at Illinois and Massachusetts.
Freelaw is absolutely right. Judges tend to believe they are the center of the
universe. Ddpplu fails to look at the issue from this perspective.
However, now that clerk's office say no way, try to file a motion and argue
before a judge to change trial date--well before the scheduled trial date.
Anywa, it is your (Ddpplu's) fault, because you should not have promised your
boss the same date once the trial date had been

The problem is that could you deny your boss's missions? And the date of
academic conferences could not be changed of course. How could I know that my
boss will ask me to attend the conference?
I did not fail to look at that issue from your perspectives. I understand that
it could be a serious problem to be abscent from court. But I am asking

Of course, I've not made decisions yet. Well, please tell me your suggestions
that I am asking.
Will my pleading guilty and paying the tickets with money order be a
disrespect to the law? Will that help a little bit? Or, still no help? Will
that be making more troubles for me? You have not told me yet.

nobody cares if you are right or wrong, your decision is your
own business ok? don't complain about words you feel uncomfortable
and just see if there is what you need.
you ask for suggestions, fine, we are here to help each other.
now most people willing to reply you alert you that the law suit is
much more important than the conference. that's our point.
as a constructive add on. you can compare the difficulty of pursuading
your boss to change mind

if you really want to change the trial date, go well before schedule
to the judge facetoface to ask his sympathy, while it is really weak
of a reason "to attend a conference assigned by my boss"...

Thanks! I may try to find the judge and I may try to find a bussiness-like
word for the reasons, just as what is used here by the professionals. Maybe
you could give me your suggestions on this issue.
It seems that you are in large cities with well-developed court systems and do
not understand the situation in very small towns whose court opens only once
a month and whose court is just the next door to the police. If I can
find the judge easily and face him, I will take your suggestions. Thanks,

I have read all postings on this topic and your email. What I am going to say
apply to a civil court only. I don't drive, and have never been a traffic
court. Please keep this in mind. For more, read insertion in your posting
below.
If you choose to default, it is almost certain that you will lose the case.
The consequence? increase of insurance premium? How many years? Don't know.
No idea if where you live, state law or city ordinance requires signal on
right turn. Check yourself. You feel the

It is unwise of you to antagonize Cocoon. I suspect he is a lawyer. At least
someone knowledge in court practice. He use his time to dispense free
advice, when he coould have earned money. You may not have dealt with a lawyer
before. Both in Taiwan and in US, they are expensive and (usually)
cold-hearted. So if you meet one who don't charge a penny, feel lucky whether
you like the advice or not. After all it costs you nothing. In a sense, you

Come to think of it, ADA may have no business in a traffic court. I retract
that part of my last posting.

qualify as evidence (legal term: admissible), there must be official seals to
