It is already 2016 now ...
1. Purity (2015) by Jonathan Franzen
Just finished reading Jonathan Franzen 's new novel purity and have to say
that I am extremely disappointed. The social novel, freedom, he wrote 6
years ago was my introduction to modern literature after Ha Jin and I was
swept off my feet by the breadth and depth of that epic story that has to do
with the coming of age, maturing and reconciliation of the female character
, and I plunged myself into the world of Jonathan Franzen and David foster
Wallace. However, I am not sure what I got out of trudging through this
dense novel. For the fancy multi-thread storytelling? For the somewhat
suspenseful storylines? For the inserted social commentaries throughout? Of
course it is still a book worth reading that combines many of the very
relevant themes, Internet, secrecy, student debt, feminism, marriage,
relations with parents, etc . Clearly Purity is not going to go down history
as one of his best novels, and I just have to look forward to his next one
...
2. The age of ambition (2014 National book award, non-fiction; 2015 Pulitzer
price finalist)
最近晚上陪女儿睡觉的时间读的。不得不说作者对展现中国社会在过去10年左右的变迁
，通过对各色人物的描写和追踪，从经济，政治，文化和社会全方位的描述，非常准确
到位。以一个在其中生活了8年的外来记者的角度，记录了一件件影响深远的大小事件
。太值得读了。政治上的无力感就不说了，我感慨最深的是生活在社会中下层的人们，
他们的无奈，艰辛和韧性。
