For health care, yes, there is a grace period For dependent day care, NO, there is no grace period. All expense has to be incurred during the plan year, no advance payment either.

Grace period is the period that the expenses incurred during that time (2 1/2 months after plan year end day) are still eligible for that plan year's reimbursement. There is NO grace period for day care plan. The last day you can file your reimbursement is called "filing deadline". It just happens that the filing deadline is very close to the health care grace period end.

But my plan clearly said Health or Dependent FSA has grace period. Eligible expenses incurred up to March 15, 2012 can be reimbursed. Maybe different employee has different rules.
