刚收到口头offer,说接下来要background check, reference check什么的。 说到
reference check我就愁了...phd专业很苦逼,于是花钱修了CS给自己留条后路。老板
特别讨厌学生心有旁骛不专心科研,之前实验室有人修别的课被发现,老板大发雷霆几
乎让他退学,所以我这一切都是偷偷进行的。 毕业找工作多亏了这个偷偷修的专业拿
了个保命的offer,可是现在想到将来的reference check就发怵。想了一圈,除了PhD
committee里包括老板在内的三个教授,别的都不太熟,而committee里其他俩教授都跟
老板很熟,如果找他们当reference老板也会知道。CS也修了几年了,授课老师估计也
不记得我了。我知道很多人提供自己phD老板做reference,而我不敢想老板要知道了会
什么反应。。。可不可以找实验室关系比较好的postdoc当reference呢?欢迎给建议,
真的愁得睡不着了,谢谢了

he think our offer is a bit low. the Asking price is 259000, we want to make
an offer of 230000 considering the condition of the house. So he think it's
fine to put in the offer but he suggest us to not including the home
warranty. How much is home warranty usually cost? And can we pay it by
ourself?

cs修课的时候有没有一起做project的同学?老师也可以。学校有名册的,一查都知道
。你可以直接告诉新公司不愿意找现在的PhD老板做reference.理由充分的话,大家都理
解。千万不要说为了找工作才转行。其实你都修了个学位出来了,老板怎么可能不知道?

orz,什么学校这么好,可以网上上课
我觉得你还是要找CS课的老师
一般老师都还比较nice,你提一下你上过课,现在有offer,需要check
老师都会帮你的,即使不记得你了
比找同学或postdoc靠谱

随便找修课时候得老师就行了。
大家都懂得。没什么人care.
除非找research scientist,这个有得地方会找老板聊聊天,要个推荐信什么得。

Where? In my area, LP=$259, offer price must be $279 or more to be
qualifying offers.
Here is my suggestion: Offer $249-$259K so you stay competitive, if you are
excited about getting the house. Then try to lower your cost to your $230K
target once your offer is in contract by asking for repair credits. Better
yet,ask agent to do a thing called comps for you so you know how to offer.
If you are not excited, just move on and look for the one you like.
I am NOT an expert, but I am very much experienced.

for master graduates, reference check is not so critical. You don't need to
involve any of your PhD advisors. Anyone who satisfy all of the two
conditions: 1) know you, once worked/studied with you; 2) can say good
things about you, can be your ref.

the offer price is based on a few factors: the house value (similar houses
sold recently), the house condition and how many offers for it. I always
call listing agent to ask what he/she got in hand before submitting offer
for my clients.
and in California, the home warranty is about $350.
