我j1，12月10日到米国，然后填了相关的表了。结果1月2日收到paycheck，发现被扣了
federal、ssn、medicare等税。然后我发信去payroll咨询，回复如下：
Because you will pass the Substantial Presence Test in 2013 and become a tax
resident of the U.S. on July 2, we must now deduct Social Security and
Medicare taxes from your checks. There is not a way that you can avoid these
taxes.
Social security and medicare taxes are not covered by any treaties.
郁闷啊，我该如何与payroll去argue？谢谢！

exempt as a teacher, trainee, or student for any part of 2 of the 6
preceding calendar years.
我知道我来的时间不好，12年12月份就算一年了
我的情况是08年过来了3个月，访问学者，国内出的钱，他们不会把那个也算上了吧。。
payroll说federal tax是因为我w9交上去的时候工资单已经打出来了，下个月就不会扣
了。但是ssn和medicare还是免不了。

总结一下，之前国内出资以j1身份过来过的，貌似不影响免联邦税（德州好像没有州税
，所以
不知道州税免不免），但是影响substantial presence test，进而影响non resident
身份，最终影响ssn和medicare的豁免。
