Best luck, since what's done is done. For others, peppers and tomatoes are better off if you start seedlings in house. They don't know what's transplant shock at all :) Even if you had to sow directly, sow them into garden soil. From a plant's point of view, mulch is not soil yet.

耙? Rake? You better use a shovel in New England. But it's great as you already got a lot of organic matter to begin with, just add loam, and you are all set. And loam is much cheaper than garden soil, or even top soil. If you are really in 东北, you can order loam by yard (yard, man! It's like buy seeds by pound, as Laosan put it.) from local supplier.
Oh I started seeding in house and transplanted the seedlings on the mulch yesterday. Thanks for the heads up!

Under tree? No problem, you can still grow greens, in hot summer. Usually, we grow greens before summer and after summer. But if you got tree shade in New England, you can grow even in summer. Just water once in the morning. You biggest challenge is actually the tree roots. They would kill for water during summer. Dig up all the loose compost(Oh, Yeah! You got years of deposit of natural compost, one of the few nice things in New England), lay down the landscape fabric, make sure all the bed bottom is covered up, with at least 6" overlap, (I usually overlay by feet, fabric's cheap). That should fence off the tree roots for years. Eventually, you will find tree roots again in your raised bed. That's when you have to start over again. But if you do a decent job with fabric, it lasts longer than we do :)
:) Can't tell the size from the photo, But usually, we set them up for rectangles 4' wide, so that you can reach the center line from either side.

Nod, unless you start with Miracle-Gro garden soil, 化肥 is needed for the first season. And what do you think is in Miracle-Gro garden soil? I can't imagine it's completely free of 化肥.
Theirs is probably untreated common pine. It's not supposed to have direct contact with soil. Yours will last years. In 5/6 years, it will fade into grey or some color like my hair, but can still hold the soil for another 5/6 years.
It's the second year we plant vegetables on this field, and what I bought was organic soil. I tried to plant 'organic' vegetables, but I guess it'll had to be 100% organic. :) Any tips on fertilizing the soils? Never made 'chicken soup' before...
