帮家里人定了11月10号的机票，准备过来呆到明年5月份。可是突然有紧急情况来不了
了，我是用的UA的卡订的UA的机票，刚才试了下取消，但是发现不会有任何refund。不
知道这种情况下怎么样能最大程度地减小损失，非常感谢任何的建议！

You won't get the refund unless it is a refundable ticket. However, you will
get some (if not all) UA credit (in dollar amount) usable for future
booking (usually within one year), minus whatever applicable fees or
subtractions.

Forgot to ask if you have purchased insurance for the ticket. If yes, check
if the emergency falls within the covered conditions, and you may be in luck

Thanks a lot! I am using UA MileagePlus card, which already has trip
cancellation insurance. My mom is having a serious operation in hospital,
but the original flight time period is about 180 days which exceed 60 days
in insurance guide... I am also not sure whether she is eligible since she
is China citizen.

乘机人或者immediate family有疾病是可以退款的 给UA打电话，可能要提供医院证明
