我早上看中国首映票房新闻看到的,得去查查出处了,也许我看错了。
不过我看到了一片分析PR票房不力的文章,水很深啊。
大纲,华纳是小股东,为了坑Legendary,故意的,可以解释放映场次和promotion的问
题。
另,我还读到一条新闻,华纳已经表明不会fund PR续集了,Legendary在找universal
和其他studio谈。
“The sad reality in PR's opening weekend is that despite Warner Bros being
on board for 25%, they wanted this movie to fail. Warner is the minority
holder in PR, and coincidentally, in charge of marketing the damn thing.
Legendary's contact with Warner is soon up, so what's the best away to keep
the studio that produced all the groundbreaking Batman films as well as
other cash cows such as the Hangover and Man of Steel? It's simple: pull the
rug out from underneath them.
Legendary's contract with Warner Bros was up in July after 8 years. In order
to keep them from moving to another major film studio, they've
intentionally short-funded all of the marketing for Pacific Rim. I can say I
've seen a few commercials for the movie and the week leading into the film
YT had a couple of ads, but that was it. I was hyped to see this movie since
last summer, and for me it was everything I asked in more. But that's the
thing. The movie didn't have a chance to reach out to the audience that may
have wanted to see it in the US at least "because Warner wanted the movie to
fail so they can renew Legendary's contract for cheap." Leading up until
opening day, only 25% of the marketing budget, run by Warner, had been
reported spent, and in the days after the release, I've seen 0 ads for it on
TV. It's dirty, but that's the reality. It's doing great in the foreign
market, but ultimately, Warner stopped caring after Man of Steel for
Legendary Pictures.
Man of Steel is about Superman, and let's be honest, everyone knows Superman
. So everyone will go see Superman because they know who he is. Pacific Rim
has it rough since it's a new IP, and few American movie-goers will go with
something different compared to something familiar. Thus Despicable Me 2 and
quite sadly, Grown Ups 2 recent success over PR.
Del Toro nutures every movie he makes like it's his child, and Pacific Rim
brings new life to a summer theater where Bayformers have jaded everyone's
taste for robots. Too bad Warner Bros couldn't be assed to pay the child
support.
