宝宝现在刚3个月，出生的时候后脑勺很平，现在好一些，但是还是平，今天看了儿医
，医生坚持说要给我们预约专家看Plagiocephaly，我对这个没有什么概念。我的大儿
子现在6岁，小时候也是一直后脑勺是平的，现在大了好多了，他们的爸爸也是平。我
和医生说了可能是家族遗传，因为宝宝我一直都是让他侧睡的多，和平躺的位置关系不
大。但是医生坚持让我去看专家，说看看下一步怎么治疗。有没有妈妈了解这个问题？
专家会怎么？是不是要带头盔？谢谢

my 6-mo son is wearing a helmet. it has been about a month. the shape of the
head improves a lot. we were told he needs 3-6 months as my son's case is "
severe".
the mistake we made was to let him sleep on soft bedding, as insisted by my
mom, even I understood clearly it increases the risk of SIDS. obviously it
was comfortable to him, so he had less head movement. As he grew rapid in
the first two months (from 17% to 94%), the back of the head became
obviously flat.
correction in the 1st year is fairly easy because the skull is still soft.
but only babies over 5 mo old can wear a helmet because their necks are
strong enough to support. for smaller babies, try "repositional therapy", i.
e. change where his head direction in the crib every day or week, this will
help rounding up the head. also, DO NOT USE soft bedding! DO NOT let the
baby sleep in a bouncer or carseat for long, because they all reduce his
head movement.
do let a doctor to check out your son. it won't cost you anything, and then
you will have a better idea.

also, increase tummy time helps too.
still, as the therapist told me, a flatten head is like a dented tin can,
once it starts, it gets progressively worse as the baby tends to sleep in
that position.
my baby's pedi told me his head will become rounded after year 2 even
without a helmet. I don't know if she meant to help, or just to make her
feel better for not warning me at the earlier checkups (as I mentioned this
before).
