Publication: 9 journal papers （all English, IF 2-5, most are 1st author）,
8 conference abstracts (one is a top meeting in the field, by invitation
only)
83 total citation (Google scholar+IS, all citations, didn’t separate self
citations and citation by others)
Review: 3 times (One IF=7, one IF=1.7(这个是提交申请前一天受到invitation，是本版上一个好心人给的review。没
来得及review，所以只交了invitation letter和agreeing to review letter)，One
is for my PhD mentor (打印了mentor的email). My lawyer insists to claim
review when I only have ONE review.
Media report: ～10 online reports, only mention my mentor’s name, use to

Reference letter: 6 (1 PhD mentor, 1 current boss, 4 independent from Japan,
Australia, USA, China, no letter from editor)

Tips for addressing “weak points”:
For low citations: I didn’t separate self citation and citation by others
1. compare with other’ citation in similar field (doesn’t have to be the
exact same field, eg Molecular Biology and Biochemistry is close enough)
For an important paper published in 2008, I only have 9 citations. So I
address this in one of the independent letter “Due to the lengthy research
and publication cycles in the field of Biochemistry, the average citation
for published papers in 2008 is only 0.45 (Thomson Reuters’ Essential
Science Indicators database, 1 January 1998-31 October 2008) . It is
therefore accurately determined that Dr. xx paper is cited 20 times more
than the average rate”

For low IF paper:
Again, COMPARE. I did a thorough search on the SCImago Journal & Country
Rank, choose a field and a year with the highest ranking. I was very
surprised to find all of the low IF journals have some "shining" rankings,
eg a IF<2 journal ranks top #5 in the field of xxx (although it is not
exactly my field). I also calculate % of the journal. Use ranks top % or top
# whichever sounds better.
For low publication number:
I compared with the top ten research universities faculty “Dr. xx
publication and citation records are exceed that of the top three ranked
records among the top ten research universities faculty in the field of
Biological Science.” (The Chronical of Higher Education “Faculty
Scholarly Productivity Index”, again, choose a similar field with lowest
citation and publications )
Like I posted before, the PL posted here before is much better than the PL
prepared by my lawyer . I can’t share my PL and reference letters, but the
“meats” are listed below
Contribution:
I emphasis original findings, international impacts and utilized by others (
provide as much detail as possible). My work is to do biological test on a
new product of my company which was invented by our chemists, but I wrote it
in the way that it’s my techniques :)
“Dr.xx’s xx techniques have been commercialized as a product at xx and
widely utilized by many world-renowned academic institutes, government
agency and leading pharmaceutical companies around the world, such as
Harvard University, the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious
Diseases, the National Institute of Health, Pfizer Inc, University of Oxford
(UK), Robert Koch-Institute (German), Università degli Studi di Bari (
Italy) and Universite de Nice Sophia-Antipolis Parc Valrose (France). For example, Dr. xxx at the University of London applied Dr. xx’s techniqueto his research in xxxxxx)
All of my reference letter has detail description of how my work has impact their research. I think this is what IO wants to see, not the vague sentences.
