One of the features that the official Windows Phone 8.1 update will provide
owners of existing devices with will be support for Bluetooth Low Energy,
and it seems that Microsoft is looking to receive certification for it ahead
of the official rollout.
The company has already submitted the update for certification at the
Bluetooth SIG, and it seems that the software has received the necessary
approvals while on its way to Nokia Lumia 1520.
As WMPoweruser notes, this new feature will provide Windows Phone 8.1
devices with the possibility to interact with Bluetooth LE accessories,
including the Nokia Treasure Tag.
Nokia has included Bluetooth LE in its devices ever since Windows Phone 8
GDR3 was released, yet that was a feature coming from the phone maker itself
, and not from Microsoft.
Windows Phone 8.1, however, should bring along native support for Bluetooth
LE, which also means that things will work smoother than before.
However, it appears that some capabilities will still be missing from the
update, such as Bluetooth HID, which would provide handsets with support for
Bluetooth keyboards.
As Windows Phone 8.1’s official release is getting closer, some more info
on the update should start emerging, so stay tuned to learn more on the
matter.
