Dear Aidan,
Thank you for your letter. You asked me the question that all the big kids
would eventually ask: “Are you real?”
I know you’ve been wondering this for a long time. I believe this is
neither the first nor the last "is it real" question you would ask in your
life.
As you grow up and learn more and more, you will find that something has
definite answers, more things have relative answers. While there are also
many things, including their answers, cannot be defined in the way you think
. They cannot be measured or even held in your hand. Here I’m talking about
love, faith, courage, hope, happiness, and many more. These things have
great power that can light your life from the inside out, even during its
darkest moments. However, these things can only be seen by those who believe
in them. I am one of such things. So whether or not I am real really
depends on how you believe.
Yes, believe! Throughout your life, you will need this capacity to believe:
in yourself, in your family, in your friends, in your talents and in your
faith. It’s not about what other people say, it’s about what you believe.
Besides this, I know you also have many other questions to me, such as where
I am living, how I deliver gifts, who are elfs, etc. I can give you some
hints, but it relies on you to fill the rest part.
I do live at North Pole, but not the one you can find on Google Maps. This
is the "North Pole" in everyone's heart.
I do have many many elfs as my helpers or agents, though they are not as
short as what you thought. My elfs are those who are filled with joy and
love, eager to share, eager to give. This year, you ......... are one of my
elfs! Remember? You packed Samaritan Purse gifts for the children in other
countries? Your class adopted a family and sent gifts to them? I’m so glad
you join my team. It’s such a big job and I need so many hands to make it
possible. Yes, your mom and dad, your teachers, and all the people who care
you are in my team too. They choose the best presents and wrap then up under
the tree. They make the family full of joy and love.
For this reason, I ask your mom to order a game console for you. Your eyes
need extra care, so I think this one with many small games fits you better.
I will let your dad to make the decision when and what basketball hoop you
will get at home. While he already give you a wonder gift by driving you to
basketball practice every week. I also want to give you a book. As your mom
told me this year you are facing more challenges at school and at home, with
your friends and yourself, I picked this book to help you find solutions.
You also requested a gift for your sister. How nice you are! Per your
request, as well as Kyle and Cayden’s request from New York, I send a
present to her. But I believe she would love to receive something directly
from you. Don’t worry about it’s not good enough, anything wrapped through
your fingers would be precious for her.
Finally, I have a request to you. Since you know the secret now, can you
please KEEP it secret? Your friends and your sister may have different
thoughts. Leave the chance and allow them to ask the question and find out
the answer by themselves. I know you will do it for me as you are on my team!
This has been a long letter. Wish you have a productive 2016!
Cheers,
Santa
