Radon has nothing to do with old houses or new houses. California Radon
level, in general is very low. And most of the houses in California don't
have basements, which is good. Also California is very dry and this brings
down Radon level too. If you have a Radon detector, you will know. The
normal no risk level is around 1.3. Level of single digit that is higher
than 1.3 presents risk equivalent to smoking 1 cigarette per day. Lots of
states in US have an average level of 3 digits. But most of places in
California have levels lower than 1.3. Also if you live on the second floor
or the third floor with window open all the time since weather is not cold,
even if the basement level is 200, the level will mostly be normal (below 1.
3) upstairs.

你是说新房子比较密封？再新的房子地面也有pores，就算只有两个，旧房子有两百个
，效果是一样的。新房子加Radon Mitigation System不是标准。这个Mitigation
System其实是从房子的地面打个洞，接管子通到室外，然后用pump抽气，造成soil内
是负压，所以Radon不进屋子了。那跟管子要很密封倒是。但房子无论新旧都不可能密
闭的。当然装时，最低一层要检查密闭性:big concrete cracks need to be fixed.
sump pump(s) need to be covered with glass. This is solely for increasing
the efficiency of the pump of Mitigation system. Since the motor of the pump
is very noisy, we need to use the smallest motor as possible and use fewer
number of motors (usually one motor one pump, that measn fewer pump) for
each house. 如果住在加州，窗大开是正经。基本上能保证no risk Radon level.

屋都知道.弯曲的新房子 大部份没有哦。另外我家装了.也有radon detector。if the

contrary.
when we bought our first house many years ago, we watched it grow from
foundation, every day like watching the crops growing up, checked every
step according to building code.
It is standard to construct new houses with radon prevention techiques,
including venting and gas insulation. In fact, most of the new houses
sold in bay area are built with radon prevention. I asked many builders
years ago and I went to the construction site to ask them to show me the
vapor barrier layer they put on.
if you don't want to believe it, you can simply go to any of the new
development and talk to a representative from the builder, ask them what
they do with regard to radon.

old houses are full of cracks that are impossible to seal.
老房子质量更好. you dream. it is 99% wrong. Not every old house is
vintage. Most of the "old houses" built in places like Cupertino, Palo
were built for poor, blue collar workers. They were built as cookie
cutters with reduced cost. The building quality would be extremely poor
in today's standards.
There are of course few old houses with "good quality". Those were
usually designed and built by rich owners. But the "good quality" is
limited to good material and good design. There is nothing good in such
houses in terms of radiation prevention or earthquake resistance.
