Retail giant Wal-Mart's same-store sales slipped 0.3%, widely missing
analyst estimates of a 1% gain.
The company, the world's largest retailer, also cut its annual profit
outlook and earnings guidance as it continued to deal with a difficult
economy and investigate potential overseas violations of a federal anti-
bribery law.
In pre-market trading, the U.S. consumer bellwether's shares (WMT) fell over
2% to $74.40.
The Arkansas-based firm, reported that its second-quarter profit rose to $4.
07 billion, or $1.24 a share, from $4.02 billion, or $1.18 a share. Revenue
rose 2.3% to $116.9 billion from $114.3 billion.
