One of my colleagues, a lady who only used P&S before, has no idea about
aperture, shutter speed, CMOS sensor and its size. She was asking for the
advice for a P&S camera. I recommended the $200 refurbished Nikon J1 with
the kit lens.
Though she doesn't have much knowledge about the camera and technical, but
she said that she likes the photos with background blurred. I just gave her
some simple tips, and ask her to try. She tried, and was really surprised
with some of the pictures from the $200 camera. The 10-30mm kit lens is
considered as the worst one among all Nikon 1 system lenses.
Overall, I would say Nikon 1 systems deserve the respect(considering the
price) though it has only 1" sensor, which is smaller than other mirrorless
systems, and much smaller than APS-C and full frame sensor.
