my advisor are good friends? His concern is that the immigration officer may
think that you and I are close (which is really not), so that the reference
may not carry as much weight as an independent one? So the statement could
be "I have not collaborated with Dr. XXX before on research. Despite our
lack of formal introduction ... ", would that be possible?
