I believe that the relationship between postdoc and advisor depends on what
you expect to gain from the advisor, and vise versa.
As a postdoc.
1. If you are highly motivated and independent, you need to find a boss who
has enough funding to support you and knowledge to guide you when you need.
You may not go to a lab where the PI is a micromanager. Most big name labs
will fall into this category. In this case, you shoudn't expect that the boss
will teach you how to do experiments.
2. If you are
