as a structural designer for a large engineering company here in west
houston, Im making $80 an hour range... with 1.5 OT...
electrical design makes about the same and piping designers making $5-10 an
hour more with pretty much unlimited OT.
engineers make less than designers.
Im also hoping for 5+ years, if houston can get some new'clear work, we'll
be set till retirement

as a PDS/Microstation Designer, I make over $200k with OT, I make over $150k
on 40 hour weeks. you need to change fields
currently, offshore designers utilizing PDMS w/offshore experience are in
high demand. there's been a recent spat of upstream awards creating a 4-5
year backlog in work, guys w/1-2 yrs experience are making over $100k a year
. this is with a two year associates degree.
