I bought a used Fender Gold Lace single coil pickup for ~$35 from ebay and
installed it on my Yamaha PAC112, and it sounds terrific. I compared
meticulously the sound quality of PAC112 w/ Fender Gold Lace sensor pickup and
my Fender American Standard Strat, not much difference except that the
American Strat has more wood, better sustain and richer tone. But the
difference is not much.
But the price between the two is a lot different!!!!
My current Yamaha system: PAC112 new $200.00 Pickup: $35

This is just a temporary solution. Well it's do-able to some guitar player
with very limited budget. But after all, electric guitar is not a pure
electric technology product, if so, there's really no need to produce this
thing ever, use MIDI. My point is, the wood sound, the sustain, the feeling of
the guitar body are very important to an advanced player. Only when you love
your guitar, you can have more inspiration to write music.
