Yeah Yeah Yeahs have spoken of China's new music scene, after they headlined
the Modern Sky festival on October 4 in Beijing's Haidian Park.
The band said: "We have brought back with us the sounds and smells of China'
s burgeoning new rock scene - bands like Re-Tros and Queen Sea Big Shark,
New Pants and P.K.14 (among many others!!) They fucked us up! Check them out
, they are all on Myspace- so you can hear what we heard and maybe see what
we saw."

Just checked out Re-Tros, their music sounds very post punk, Joy Division
and Siouxsie imediately sprung to my mind. Queen Sea Big Shark's track is
very Mod(ish), neither band is original but they all sound pretty good!

我觉得用英语唱没什么,个人自由，日本德国还有其非英语国家好多乐队也都用英语唱
客观上更有利于推广,就比如我们大家听过的外国摇滚歌曲，英语的占99.9%吧
当然我自己还是更喜欢用汉语唱的中国乐队
而且现在国内大部分乐队还是用汉语唱的吧
另外我也不觉得重塑的歌词makes no sense...

不能说 "makes no sense"
我的意思是太Chinglish，错误百出。新裤子的英文歌也差不多。
如果用中文的话肯定能更准确的表达的作者的原意。
要写英文歌，即使不深刻，起码要通顺啊。

Re-Tros 感觉模仿痕迹很重，不过这年头做成这样就很赞了
上次还到美国来巡演，哈哈

我没说我不喜欢重塑雕像的权利.我只是说,如果这些歌能用它们的中文歌词直接唤醒听
者的心灵,我觉得是比用英文歌表达空无一物的形式感强一万倍的事情.
OK Computer的歌词多么的牛逼. 这些用英文唱歌模仿国外乐队模仿到家的中国年轻乐
队,又能如何?

这也是为什么我仍然认为目前国内最好的乐队是PK14, 最好的歌手是小河的原因.

hehe, new pants are definitely the best and most productive band ever in
china,
in my opinion(I mean a band in which every member contributes, not some
leader's
personal vehicle or project).
but they seem to get the least favor from serious fans or critics...just

我倒觉得PK14的东西做的差点劲儿
不中不洋，气质上不够侵略性，细节上也没什么个性或出彩的地方
国内起码我觉得后朋风格的，重塑，舌头，腰都不比PK14差

我觉得大概从01年之后出现的年轻乐队确实没有什么特别好的了
不过我觉得这和用中文还是英文没有什么关系
重塑其实里面也都是老人了吧

他们要的歌曲感觉.感觉只是皮毛,精神才是感触我的东西.

does anyone actually like Re-Tros?
I checked out the two songs on their myspace, not impressed
and I get the feeling that they are taking themselves too seriously
not to say there is anything wrong with that
but when your sing about "hang the police"
it's hard for me to take that very seriously

也许他们想用｀硬文｀唤醒听者的心灵吧，毕竟他们是用第二语言创作，俺对他们的歌
词不会报啥不负实际的期待。不是每个人都能写出Morrissey那样的歌词（who would
ask Bjork to polish up her English lyrics? how much more can one miss the
point than that?）。Re-Tros的致命伤是别人的影子太重，如果他们能加入一些自己
的东西的话，应该会狠成功！

我觉得对中国乐队和国外乐队不应该双重标准..
retros的确是属于受国外音乐影响比较明显的乐队
他们不可能像子曰二手玫瑰一样
但是谁又说中国乐队不能受外国乐队影响呢？
至少我觉得retros的音乐比大部分最近的所谓"大牌"欧美乐队都好，就够了

I agree their debut is the best, while I still heart their other more

albums, just like Cui Jian.

Agree. 我觉得全球化youtube/myspace时代的乐队, 完全欧美化的中国乐队反而更容易
获得国际认同. 我觉得这也是英文歌词大行其道的原因之一.

It's not double standard at all. I wrote Re-Tros is in too much debt to
orther bands' influence, not once did I mention the word 'foreign'. No
matter how good a band sound, if they have nothing new but the repackaging
of other people's music to offer they will always be labled as copycats.
They might be vogue for a short period of time, but they will come to
backlash invariably. Did Gene sound as good as Smiths? You sure can bet your
ass they did, and look what happened to them?

I understand what you mean. But I cannot agree on the copycat label as to
retrosThey are copycats or not, or the degree to which they are influenced
by
other bands, is still subjective. But we can always try to talk about it in
a
relatively impersonal way. Firstly, They are not like Tang Dynasty, HeiBao,
Over
load...who were prevailing when listeners had little clue of the whole
western metal scene(I am not saying these bands were bad, just show there is

Hi Mustaine, I did agree that Re-Tros' EP sounds good, what I'm arguing here
is what makes a band great. Granted, after decades of evolving, it's hard
to bring anything new to pop music at all, you fall into traps left, right
and middle. A great band should still offer something uniquely their own,
even though sheer originality is a bit over-reaching these days. You
mentioned Interpol, Franz Ferdinand, and Editors, they are all good bands but NOT great, neither should Re-Tros be. And if you look

totally agree. i went back months ago and bought some new bands' xiao yang.
all i feel are
1. they are trying to be like somebodies, but themselves.
2. English lyrics is really not a good idea if you cannot tell us what you
really wanna say.
3. from some magazine intro, those bands are good, cool, neat... whatever,
but down to the bottom of their music, most of them are shallow stuff...
