All my documents were saved as ".wip" on my external hard dirver by my
previous IT people. I can't open the files, neither can I get in touch with
them. Can anyone help to sort out how to open the files with extention ".wip
"? Thanks!!!

I am almost a computer blind. Don't understand or can't find the right
answer from internet.

just googled ".wip file", first entry shows:

Formerly known as CyberScrub Professional Edition. This is a disk wiping
tool. The .WIP files are created during the wiping process and should be
automatically deleted at the end of the process. They generally contain
random bits; nothing useful at all.
I don't know if that is THE .wip file type. If that is the case, your
documents might be saved at another place.
