这些数字或字母可以让后台的CGI程序知道referer是chinaren,yahoo的网页，
而不是其他网页连接过去的。

我猜你说的是Reverse Turing test吧。这样可以防止你的password被programmed
dictionary attack。因为RTT测试输入password的是不是人，还是程序。

Are you talking about the digitals you can recognize and input?
If so, it is used to protect auto-register, in other words to
prevent software-deamon from registering accounts automatically.
(Since the software have to apply graphics recognition on those
digitals in order to pass these test. Usually there are many
tricks in the design of this digitals to prevent graphics recognition
processing).
