Now I have my comments on Shen AP's talk, after killing more than one hour
of my good sleep time:(. Someone can forward this to huaren. I browsed a
couple of pages there and found all of those posters have no knowledge of
academic research and the particular field, but quite enjoying slinging mud
onto other people.
Accent aside, Shen Haiying is an experienced presenter, who spoke in a
steady speed with proper emphasis at critical points. She clearly presented
her work, and interacted with the audience nicely during the Q&As. It was a
nice talk, though not the best I have been to by a Chinese AP.
From their interaction, the situation seemed like she was attending a
conference in Seattle area, and made an excursion to MSR to talk with the
interested group. Hence, the sparse audience.
Shen evidently knows her field very well, and has good insights. I am not
directly in the P2P field, so I can not compare her work with her competing
peers. But looks to me, MSR people recognized her work. The host, 李劲, who
manages MSR's communication system team, is one of the most talented Chinese
folks of his time, maybe even until now.
Noted that her talk took place in September 2009, after she moved to Clemson
, but before she was awarded the faculty fellowship from Microsoft Research.
So it can be reasonably assumed that Microsoft people is aware of her
organization change and tenure-tracked years. I wouldn't be worried about
the challenge on her eligibility for the award.
Briefly skimming over her publication list (a very impressive one to me), I
found some of her collaborators has been serving as NSF director (Huaren
DaMa's may add one more charge to her crime:). My feeling is Prof. Shen is
well established in her field and well recognized by her peers. She should be able to have a successful career.
BTW, I didn't know the shitty place as huaren before this event. Really eye-wide-opening!

peers. But looks to me, MSR people recognized her work. The host, 李劲, who
manages MSR's communication system team, is one of the most talented Chinese
folks of his time, maybe even until now.
Noted that her talk took place in September 2009, after she moved to Clemson
, but before she was awarded the faculty fellowship from Microsoft Research.
So it can be reasonably assumed that Microsoft people is aware of her
organization change and tenure-tracked years. I wouldn't be worried about
the challenge on her eligibility for the award.
Briefly skimming over her publication list (a very impressive one to me), I
found some of her collaborators has been serving as NSF director (Huaren
DaMa's may add one more charge to her crime:). My feeling is Prof. Shen is
well established in her field and well recognized by her peers. She should be able to have a successful career.
BTW, I didn't know the shitty place as huaren before this event. Really eye-wide-opening!

看了下，专业我不懂。
虽然沈的英语发音不是很好，但毕竟们是外国人啊，比某些印度faculty的发音好多
了啊。。。
单纯从presentation是否effective的角度来看，presentation skills非常好，衣着气
质绝对presentable，眼神很自信，落落大方，肢体很放松，语速适中，显得很老练。
大部分老中这方面的skills很差的.对比下那个做介绍的男的，他可能是微软员工吧，

这点没啥好质疑的吧.很多人做slide都不用paper里面的原图而用powerpoint里面自带
的或者excel重画啊,因为比直接贴原图看得清楚.

很多人用latex写文章，或者matlab还有别的什么画图
就觉得word excel不行
其实那只是功力不够而已
excel可以做出很专业的图
word也可以写出很专业的paper
不过是工具而已

Yeah, maybe, who knows, her body language is not that attractive. And this
is my first time hearing, you cannot use a speaking language but just
gestures to make appealing, which only works in pets. For students, she can
use her body language explaining her wireless stuff to her students?
Anyway, for the first, W-F has nothing to do with this issue of her and I

thing about what programs are better suitably used or recognized, all right?
I know Word and Excel are perfect, but in scientific area, no paper will
accept Excel. On the other hand, can you accept a paper with handwriting now
? That is not because handwriting is not beautiful but because it is not
proper to use right here. And secondly, matlab is not for plotting, but for
program to plot, as long as you have data, you are informed to plot in other
ways, like igor or origin, which are scientifically professionally
recognized

生物口用R, python,Perl
SAS 计算处理表格数据库
Prism 画图。
Keynote 做presentation.

我要是早看这个，早知道有这么个沈教授就好了，我一定就把PHD读完了。
想不到她这样的，都混壮了。
毕竟我的学历，英语水平，比她可是强多了。
相貌，气质不好评价。
不过我要是口语这么烂，我都不早意思开口说话,确实不能象她这么从容。
觉得她的专业水平，也比较一般。
相信象我这么想的理工科女生，应该有很多。
