我卖的 covered-call 怎么还不被 executed?# Stock

实在受不了comcast老涨价。打算换成ATT的internet服务。
看了看ATT的网站，好像裸的internet，就是那个U-verse internet pro,
一个月20刀。但是那个one-time charge (就是要买它家的internet gateway)
太贵了，要100刀。
请问各位，这100刀必须花吗？弄个二手的行不行?
或者我家里还有五年前用过的ATT的 DSL modem，不知能不能用?

att网络太差，经常信号断，打了n个电话（n>=5）,解决不能，放弃；
前m个月（m=3，4，5，7）原价，之后才是promotional price，要回credit得打N个电
话（最后要威胁找supervisor才给返）
如果你还想办att，加固话modem的100可以退，不加固话只能买modem
现在他家是2wireXXX型号的modem居多，不知道以前的能不能用

It sucks. Selling covered-call is the worst experience in the market. Unless
it is absolutely necessary, don't want to do it again.

我们办的时候说modern的费用可以rebate回来，但是现在又说不给。还没去argue呢

他家就是这样，多argue几次就行了，去年定的时候 rebate老是拖着不给，好不容易给
寄出来后，给ld用竟然最后忘记用完了就过期了

Right.
Selling covered-call == Short naked puts
You can't earn much, but may lose a lot.
remember this formula when you trade stocks/options combined:
+Stock-Call+Put = Bond (or Savings)
+: buy or long
-: sell or short
Put it in English:
if you buy 100 shares of stock ABC, sell one call against it, buy one put to
secure it. The net result is to get current interest rate for all your
money involved.

一般都是OE的周六交割的
你是说你买了股票，然后卖了covred call，是在等broker把你的股票assign走是吧？
这个要等周六交割后才算完成的

Exactly. I am waiting to be executed for those shares.
So until Saturday, I can only hold both sold-calls and shares. It is really
bad, because I cannot have any operation at after-hour today.
BTW, which broker are you using?

option expiration date always falls on the third saturday of a month (or the
proceeding friday, if friday is a holiday).
normally, those who sell covered calls do not want to see their shares
called away so they can keep selling. if you are so eager to see your
options exercised, why didn't you sell the shares out right?

I sold it last week when the market was really bad. At that time, I am in a
panic to gain some fraction of profit. Later on, I regret, buf notice that
the buy-back price of those calls is very expensive. So that is why I want
my shares to be executed. And I want it to be executed as early as possible.

那是应为他把call买回来的成本高于卖掉股份的成本。我今天就碰到这种情况
明明应该归零的，卖家硬是asking 0.12，我也没办法，还是SSO 38c。

i see.
before i make a couple of suggestions, i'd like to say that you don't need
to feel too bad about this. on the contrary, for a beginner, it is probably
better that you get a bitter taste of options than getting lucky. i have a
few friends who mistook luck for skills and got overly confident with
options; they ended up losing their shirts later on.
to me, any operation involving options should be part of an overall

No need to call. It will show up in your account on Sunday (afternoon
if not morning). If you short put/call, the cost of assigned stocks may
look weird on Monday. It will be corrected on Tuesday.

100619C should be settled end of today (June 19, 2010)
100630C will be settled June 30, 2010

click on the symbol, if it says that it is invalid, then it will be settled
at the end of today
if it is still valid, then it could be 100630C.

Can I use the executed cash to do trading on Monday? That is what I am
concerned. To be honest, the broker should finalize eveything on Saturday
because it is the expiration day officially. Why do they wait until Sunday
or Monday as you mentioned?

If you have a margin account, you can use the money (buying power) on Monday.
(I do not know for a cash account.) I use IB and Tdameritrade.

settlement date can be different from option expiration date.
if your broker already owns the underlying stock, your trade should get
settled very quickly. many brokers keep an inventory of the most popular
stocks.
on the other hand, for not-so-popular stocks, a broker may need to go
through a chain of other brokers to get all the shares. in that case, they
have to do some record keeping, and that will delay the settlement date.
that being said, 6/30 still seems kind of belated. is this a foreig
