you have been adding short posiitons since Oct 2010. How deep is your pocket ? If you'd been establishing tiny postions every time, you would be working for the broker not yourself...

Hi Rim, what's the most cost effective to short the general market? ProShares Short S&P500 (SH)? no time decay with this one? I guess double short ETFs or put options requires more on timing.

yes, you are right. however, for me, there is another consideration. I almost never cut loss. So if I short SPY, QQQQ, or FAS (which I did) directly, I may end up with huge loss if the market keeps going higher. So I buy puts, usually slightly in the money puts 1-3 months away. I do pay time premiums, but my loss is limited to whatever price I pay up front. I consider that as a natural stop- loss.

All inverse ETFs have time decay.
