That is because of technology progress in natural gas production.
U.S. has become an export country instead of an import country from 2009.

After surfing the net I see a mixed picture for the mid- to long-term
outlook of natural gas price. Basically as you said, there is an output
suprplus in US and Europe for the next few years, but also a shortage in
China and developing countries. Here is an interesting analyst report I
