Market can stay irrational longer than you stay solvent, so unless you are a
hedge fund who has deep pockets and clearly know what you are doing, you
are more likely to lose money from both long and short positions in a down
market. Better way is to buy puts to hedge or take a completely long-term
perspective and ignore the short-term market fluctuations.
