Not necessarily.
I used to think so up to last week.
I am 39 weeks along (advanced pregnancy, 39 y/o, first pregnancy), baby is
not engaged.
By ultrasound, baby is pretty big, over 8 lbs and head size 10.6+ cm last
week.
It is a possible 头盆不称 scenario. I talked to my OB who had been saying
that I need to do a trial natural birth up until 38 weeks, but last week, he
changed his mind and said that I could schedule a c-section if I wanted to.
So I scheduled C section for Monday. At the end of the day, it is your
decision.
I would think if I am 5-10 years younger I would still choose to try natural
birth, but we also need to pay attention to the possible risk/side effects
due to failed induce labor and etc..
so I would think watch your baby size carefully, and discuss continuously of
your concern with your OB. He/she is responsible for the health and
wellbeing of both you and your baby. It is a decision to be made based on
all facts given.
Good luck.
