No quite different.
Austin is deep blue in recent decades.
Other than Austin, all major cities in Texas are red.
I have no idea what was like many decades ago though.

My impression Texas was pro-Democratic Party in the JFK assassination and UT
tower shooting era.
Time changes. California switched from deep red to deep blue and Texas moved
in opposite direction.
