Hypothetically: two offers 1) Research AP / Instructor working on big
project such as human genome project
(also paid by HGP, no funding pressure). Tier one medical school or 2)
independent tenure-track AP on own
project. Tier two medical school.
Pro and Cons? which one would you choose?

AP if you like independent work and are ready to apply for R01 grants (e.g.
enough preliminary data, excellent ideas, etc).

what is tier 1 and what is tier 2?
tier one means 1-100?

Tier 1 = Top 3~5: Harvard, Johns Hopkins, WUSTL, etc.
Tier 2 = 3/5 -20: e.g. Vanderbilt, CaseWestern, UPittsburg, etc.
But it's medical school. Overall med school ranking does not mean much.

take both, negotiate with the second one, since the first one doesn't offer

RAP 什么都不是，有的人甚至会以为你是一个找不到出路的千老。
除非你有自己的钱，不然的话以后你用RAP 的身份去申请正经的tenure-track
position 很容易受到歧视。

I thought tier1 is top 10, tier2 is top 20-50, tier3 is top50-100. haha.

Sorry, my own definition for this specific case. Can't be generalized.
