如何把x写到max下面去？比如
max f(x)
x
我现在只能写成subscript形式。
另外如果用了
\begin{eqnarray}
\end{eqnarray}
每个公式都有序号。
\begin{eqnarray*}
\end{eqnarray*}
所有公式都没有序号。能否给这组公式一个唯一的序号？

For the first questions, use display math, i.e.,put your formula with \max i

or equation environment. Inline formula cannot display in your expected way.
The second question, used

if he really wants that in the inline formula he can force it by
$\displaystyle \max_x f(x)$. but that line would be extra tall
and will look bad.
