Depends on what your goal is. It is infinitely harder to produce
publishing quality papers by Word, but Word is perfect for casual
use.

not true, it will take you only 2 hours to get yourself
started, and if will be more efficient than Word from the
very beginning.

Not necessarily take more time if you can get
a sample LaTeX file and modify it.

No, just do some thing with latex, and you will learn it quickly.
And 5% latex do 95% work, need not learn too much.
